Antique Cuckoo Clocks

Today when I was scurring about looking at antique clocks on the net I came across a cool Black Forest Antique Cuckoo Clock

These clocks are absolutely amazing.  To start with, if they're original they're hand crafted and most likely well over a hundred years old.  So, they're solid wood with solid clockworks inside of them.  To top it off, the wood is typically gorgeous and the craft work done on them is outstanding.

A person can clearly tell that on the originals, the craftsmen were dedicated to producing a unique and stunning piece of work.  I wonder if when they were creating them if they realized that in the distant future that antique clock collectors would be going cuckoo over their clocks? :)

I think cuckoo clocks, particularly antique cuckoo clocks have a certain charm about them.  That little bird pops out, they have the weights and chains and they add a great distinction to any wall.

Collecting Antique Clocks

People begin collecting antique clocks for a multitude of reasons: they've inherited one and have found they have fallen in love with it and it's styles, they simply like antique clocks and can't get enough of them, they are speculators and have found a way to profit off of them...or, any other reason anybody collects anything.

Regardless of why you have started, or are considering to start, collecting antique clocks you'll definately find that there is a stunningly vast array of directions the collecting can go.

You can concentrate solely collecting antique clocks made by certain companies.  Many of the most common are: Seth Thomas and Ansonio.

You can concentrate on collecting types of antique clocks such as: Antique mantel clocks, antique wall clocks, antique naval clocks or antique grandfather clocks.

As with all types of collecting you can concentrate on a time period, if you're new to collecting antique clocks you can start with those of less age and as time goes by and you become more experienced you can go for older and older.

However and for whatever reasons you're collecting antique clocks, the most important thing is to just have fun.

Antique Clocks & Affordability

One of the really, really cool things I find about antique clocks is the diverse price range they can be had at.

If a person is just getting started or doesn't have a lot of money available for collecting there are tons of antique clocks that can be had affordably. After a person has collected for awhile and/or finds that collecting antique clocks becomes more of a passion than a hobby, it's easy to find higher end antique clocks that are more rare and desirable to collectors.

And, it doesn't really even matter what kind of antique clock you're looking for either. From wall to mantle, with the exception of antique grandfather clocks, they pretty much all can be found in starting price ranges of around twenty dollars. Of course in the top end, like all collectibles and antiques, the sky is the limit.

So, if you're looking for something to collect or have fallen for antique clocks then just step into the fray. It's pretty easy to find an antique clock that's both affordable and beautiful.

Antique Clocks - French Beauties

Some of the most beautiful antique clocks I think there are out there are French antique clocks.

What I think attracks to many of those that are made by French clock makers is that they are decidely artistic and not so much just artistic in one style or design.  I saw one today that is a complete skeleton, this is an antique clock that has no casement or anything like that and it was absolutely a design of beauty.

I wish I had the time to sit here and describe all of the cool French antique clocks I came across today as, well, I think there was something about each one of them that I found I liked.

Oh, there was another that stood out and screamed at me.  It was a Rococo Garniture Mantle Clock.  This thing was gorgeous!!  The subject was Wheat Harvest Woman Man Ornate.  It has a very nice patina look to it's brass with a candle holder on either side of an elaborately styled clock case.  It knocked me over for sure.

Well...take a look at some cool French antique clocks when you get a chance

Finding Antique Clocks

I've found a new addiction and I'm proud of it. Hi, I am an antique clock addict.

Lately I've been devouring all of the information I can find on antique clocks and learning about the different kinds of clocks that seem to be popular but most importantly I've been finding out what kinds of antique clocks I really like.

As it turns out, I like them all.

I can't get enough of looking at them and wanting them...lol I'm going nuts hanging out at ebay's antique clocks section, there are tons of pictures and different varieties of clocks. Right now I'm thinking my favorites are the antique mantel clocks but wall clocks and grandfather clocks are pretty darn cool too.

If you're looking for some great current information about these head on over there and check them out: antique clock auctions

Have Fun.
